Gooseneck microphones are designed primarily for AV and conferencing environments or any situation where spoken word needs to be picked up but where the presenter does not want to use a hand-held microphone. Gooseneck mics pick up sound directly from above and in a moderately wide cardioid polar pattern, or you could select one with a super-cardioid pattern which is a tighter polar pattern. The microphone is mounted on the end of an adjustable gooseneck which can range between 6 to 18 inches in length.
